10 DAYS MOUNT KENYA CLIMBING AND LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA SAFARI

Day 01: Nairobi – Chogoria: Meet and greet on arrival at the airport. After short briefing depart for Chogoria. Accommodation at Snow Peak Hotel. Meal plan: {L, D} https://www.snowpeakhotel.co.ke/en/

Day 02: Chogoria – Mount Kenya Bandas (2,900m) 2 hrs, 5 km.
Morning spent in preparations for the climb. Afterwards we take a 4*4 vehicle to drive up where we start our Mount Kenya hike via the ni lol bamboo forest. The vehicle helps in cutting most of the lower ground. We walk for 3 hours to the Meru Mt Kenya Bandas for dinner and an overnight gaining a 680m ascent. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 03: Mount Kenya Bandas – Lake Ellis – Road Head Campsite (3,300m)
Distance: approx. 9 km
Ascent: 500 meters to Lake Ellis (3,450m)
Then a gentle descent to Road Head Campsite (3,300m)

The journey up the mountain begins after breakfast. This will be a busy and adventurous day. From the Mount Kenya Meru Bandas, we will hike straight to Lake Ellis. After taking photos and enjoying the lake, we’ll retrace our steps slightly, then take a shortcut to the Road head Campsite for lunch. Meal plan: {B, L, D}
In the afternoon, we’ll visit the beautiful Nithi Waterfall. If time allows, we’ll also explore the Mau Mau Cave — a significant historical site in Kenya’s struggle for independence. After the excursions, we return to the campsite for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 04: Lake Ellis Mount Kenya – Minto’s Camp. (4,200m) 12 km, 900m Ascent.
>On this day, we will leave Road Head and trek through the stunning Gorges Valley on our way to Minto’s Hut, located at 4,200 meters.
After breakfast we continue our journey up the highest mountain in Kenya re-joining the normal Chogoria route. It is about a 6-hour hike to our next camp. The Gorges Valley offers the best views of the peaks and when you turn behind the Mugi hills and the Giants Billiards Table are amazing. Close by the Minto’s camp is the temple with a spectacular view of Lake Michaelson beneath it. Dinner and a good night rest after a full day of climbing Mount Kenya. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 05: Minto’s – Pt. Lenana– Met. Station
Pre-dawn starts at 0300hrs from the Mintos camp and attempts the 3rd highest peak – Pt. Lenana, 4,985m to be on the top of the summit by sunrise for a good view of the main peaks and mountain environs. On a clear day you can be able to see the Uhuru peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro- a few minutes for celebration and photos. Then descend down on the Westside of the mountain through the Austrian hut, proceed down to Mackinder hut for breakfast and rest. Afternoon hike for 05 hours through the moorland to Met. Station camp for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 06: Met station – Naru moru park gate – Nanyuki.
>After breakfast begin a 3 hour walk through the forest to Naru moru park gate where you will find a vehicle waiting to transfer back to Nanyuki for overnight stay at Simbas Lodge. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Early breakfast then drive to Lake Nakuru national park for a full day game viewing drives. Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population as one of the world’s greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are a considerable number of animals to be encountered, such as many large game animals such as zebras, elephants and gazelles; this is one of our best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where we can see Rothschild’s Giraffes. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 08: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara. After breakfast drive to Masai Mara game reserve, the northern part of the Serengeti – Mara ecosystem. It is one of Kenya’s most favored game viewing areas. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills. Lunch is served on arrival followed by afternoon game viewing drives. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 09: Masai Mara. Enjoy a full day exploring the Maasai Mara, Kenya’s premier wildlife sanctuary. Famous for its abundant animal populations including lions, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo. Choose between morning and afternoon game drives or opt for a full-day experience with a picnic lunch inside the reserve. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 10: Masai Mara – Nairobi. After breakfast drive back to Nairobi and drop back to the airport or to your booked hotel. Meal plan: {B}

Start the day with final trekking preparations before heading into Mount Kenya’s lower forest in a rugged 4x4. The drive winds through lush bamboo zones and opens into a tranquil trail where your real hike begins. Walk for about 3 hours through beautiful forested landscapes, arriving at the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas—a cozy mountain hideaway surrounded by nature.

Start the day with a scenic hike to the stunning Lake Ellis, surrounded by alpine beauty and perfect for photos. After a short break, descend gently to Road Head Campsite for lunch in the wild.

In the afternoon, discover the hidden Nithi Waterfall, and if time allows, explore the legendary Mau Mau Cave — a piece of Kenya’s freedom history. Wrap up with dinner and a cozy overnight stay at the campsite.

Get ready for one of the most scenic days on Mount Kenya. Trek through the dramatic Gorges Valley, with epic views of the Mugi Hills and the surreal Giants Billiards Table.

Reach Minto’s Camp in the afternoon, set at 4,200m. Just nearby is The Temple, a jaw-dropping cliff edge overlooking Lake Michaelson — one of the best viewpoints on the mountain. Dinner and stargazing finish off the day.

This is the moment you've been waiting for! Wake up at 3:00 AM for a torch-lit ascent to Point Lenana, Mount Kenya’s third-highest peak. Reach the summit at sunrise and watch as the first light of day reveals an unforgettable panorama—including, on clear days, views of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. After celebration and photos, descend past the Austrian Hut and rest at Mackinder’s. Continue through the moorland to Met Station for a well-earned rest.
